Trout Creek Trail
Directions- From the town of South Fork travel west on US Hwy 160 for 2.5 miles. Off to your right lies the trailhead and gravel parking lot. The trail starts from here. This trail is 10.4 miles long. It begins at Hwy 160 and ends at Forest Road 430. The trail is open for the following uses: Motorcycle Trail Riding, Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) less than or equal to 50 inches wide, Mountain Biking, Foot and Horse Travel. No Jeeps or ATVs over 50 inches. Map

Continental Divide Trail
Directions: From South Fork. First you must get to the the dirt road on the right just before you reach the summit of Wolf Creek Pass. If you’ve hit the Divide Kiosk, you’ve gone too far. This will take you to the Lobo Overlook parking area at a microwave tower site. The trail begins there. Bike or walk through the meadow on an obvious trail and cross a creek on a wooden bridge. Turn left after crossing the bridge. Make sure to turn left and not right! You can bike/hike out and back or loop. Length: 15+ Miles

Tucker Ponds and Campground
Directions- From South Fork take US Hwy 160 west 13.5 miles to Tucker Ponds sign. Turn left at sign onto Rd. 390 (gravel) and go 2.7 miles to another campground sign. Turn left at sign into fishing area parking lot .NOTE: Forest Rd. 390 is single-lane with turnouts. Facilities- vault toilet, parking lot No overnight camping in fishing parking lot Elevation- 9700′ Campground- Open Memorial day through Labor day. Big Meadows Reservoir and Campground
Head west on the US-160 towards Wolf Creek. Turn right onto Co Rd 410 for 1.4 miles. Slight left onto F R 410 for .04 mile. Facilities- Boat ramp, Tent camping, Picnic tables, Vault Toilets, Drinking water, Parking Camp spots are on a first come first serve basis. No wake allowed on this lake! Middle Alder Trail
Directions- Travel northwest on State Hwy 149 one mile until you cross the Rio Grande. Turn right on County Road 15. Travel east on 15 a little over a mile until you see a sign for Forest Road 610. Turn left and go north on 610 2 miles to the Alder Guard Station. Keep going up 610 for another mile to a sharp switchback. The trailhead is to your right. Length- 5 miles and dead ends No facilities Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) less than or equal to 50 inches wide, motorcycles, mountain bikes, hiking and horseback. Map

Windy Pass Trail
Directions: From US 160- West on Highway 160 to West Fork Road which is on the other side of Wolf Creek Pass. Watch for “Windy Pass Trail” sign on the highway. In about 0.3 miles before West Fork Road you will see a San Juan National Forest sign on your right, park here. Use care when crossing highway 160. Elwood Pass OHV Trail
This is a high elevation OHV road promises back country air and breathtaking views! Head west on the 160 and turn left onto Demijohn rd. Demijohn rd turns into park creek rd. As you ascend you can stop at Elwood cabin INFO HERE Or continue to Summitville and even Chama! Summit elevation- 11,676ft Map

Million Reservoir
Directions- From the town of South Fork, Travel one mile west on US Hwy 160. Take a left and travel south on the Beaver Creek Road # 20 for 2 miles. Turn left and go back to the southeast on road 360.1B for .25 miles to the parking lot. Facilities- Parking lot, vault toilet Fish- Rainbow Trout Map Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish!

Treasure Falls
Directions: : Travel west from South Fork on US Highway 160 to the Treasure Falls parking area on the left (west). It is on the other side of Wolf Creek Pass Facilities: Parking lot Length- .3 Mile one way Elevation: Begin-8,500′ End-8,825′ Map

Hunters Lake Trail
Directions- Travel west on US Hwy 160 for 11 miles. Take a right at the Big Meadows Reservoir turn off. Travel on Forest Road 410 for 2 miles to the reservoir. Continue past the reservoir on Forest Road 430 for another 7miles. The trail takes off the road here to the west and goes to Hunters Lake. The Hunters Lake trail is 1.1 miles long. It begins at Forest Road 430, the Weminuche Wilderness boundary and ends at Forest Trail 835, the trail travels past Hunters Lake. You may choose to go to the Highland Trail #832 or the Tie Hill Trail #835 and create a loop or continue towards the Continental Divide. If you continue on the Trail #832, you will run into an area called the stair steps. Please be cautious while passing through the stair steps! Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish! Map

Crater Lake Trail
Directions: Travel west and turn left (south) onto Park Creek Road (FS 380), a gravel road. Continue 19.1-miles to a small pullout on the west side of the roadway. Look for small trail sign. Facilities: None Length: 3.7 Miles one way Elevation: Begin-10,792′ Ascend to- 11,500′ Then decent 1,353′ one way to lake Map

Alberta Park Reservoir
Ready for a high elevation lake day? Try 10,200 elevation! Take the 160 west to Wolf Creek Ski Resort, turn into Resort. Facilities- none Description- Enter the left gate into wolf Creek Ski resort and look for small brown sign that says Alberta Lake. Proceeded through parking lot to the dirt road at the end. Follow that road all the way to the lake. The road is a gravel-ish road that I’ve seen cars on so if you do not have an SUV or truck you should be OK. It didn’t seem bad at all but travel at your own risk. The road opens to a beautiful lake. There are a few dispersed camp spots there. The lake can be walked around if the water is lower and is surrounded by a dense forest. There is a boat launch but the water can get low and be below the launch. Bring the canoe or paddleboard. Unless you’re in the trees the parts close to the shore do not have shade so bring sunblock! This is a high elevation lake and weather can change rapidly so be prepared for anything. Crystal Lakes
Directions- From South Fork, Colorado: Travel one mile south on U.S. Highway 160 to Forest Road 360. Take FR 360 south for 14 miles south to the junction of Forest Road 332. Take 332 east for another 3 miles. Look to the north for Lower Crystal Lake. There are 9 acres of waters with upper and lower lakes. Facilities- None Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish! Map

Shaw Lake
Directions- From South Fork, Colorado: Travel west on U.S. Highway 160 10 miles to Forest Road # 410. Take FR # 410 west for 1.4 miles to “Y” intersection (Forest Rd. 410). Bear right onto Rd. 430 and go 2 miles into the Shaw Lake boat ramp. Facilities- Vault toilet, small parking lot No wakes on this small lake. Open to ice fishing Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish! Map

Cross Creek Trail and Campground
In South Fork, CO, at intersection of Hwy 149 and US 160, take US 160 west 1.4 miles to Beaver Creek Rd. sign (Forest Rd. 360). Turn left onto Beaver Creek Rd. and go 6.4 miles to trailhead sign. Turn left at sign just before the campground. NOTE: Forest Rd. 360 becomes gravel after 4 miles. Length- 4.7 miles Facilities- Restroom at trailhead The end of the trail offers some beautiful views of Del Norte Peak, Willow Park and the surrounding area. The trail is open for the following uses: Off Highway Vehicles (OHV) less than or equal to 50 inches wide, Motorcycles, Mountain Biking, Hiking and Horseback. No JEEPS, No ATV’s over 50 inches wide. Upper Beaver Creek Campground
Directions- In South Fork, CO, at intersection of Hwy 149 and US 160, take US 160 west 1.4 miles to Beaver Creek Rd. sign. Turn left at sign onto Beaver Creek Rd. and go 3 miles to Lower Beaver campground sign. Keep going another .75 miles to the Upper Beaver Campground sign. Turn right into the parking area. Poage Lake
Directions- From the town of South Fork travel one mile west on US Hwy 160. Turn Left and travel south on Beaver Creek Road 360. Travel on 360 for 15 miles to the very end of 360. Park here and walk .25 miles to the lake shore. Facilities- Parking lot Elevation- 11,000′ You can disperse camp next to the parking lot. Artificial flies and lures only. Bag possession and max size for trout is 2, 12 inches long. Open for ice fishing. Map Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish!

Rio Grande River

Palisade Campground
Directions- Take Hwy 149 west 7.3 miles to campground sign. Turn left into campground. Amenities- Tent camping, trailer camping , picnic tables, vault toilets, drinking water, parking Campground Info This is a busy campground so come early! This is right on the Rio so bring the fishing poles! Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish. Map

Lower Beaver Creek Campground
Directions- Directions from South Fork, Colorado: Travel one mile south on U.S. Highway 160 to Forest Road 360. Take FR 360 south for 4.5 miles to lower beaver creek campground entrance. 8400-foot elevation. Fishing in nearby Beaver Reservoir and Beaver Creek. Hiking on nearby trails. Facilities- 18 sites with tables and fireplaces, vault type toilets, and a developed drinking water system with hand pumps (in season) Map Campground Info Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish!

Alberta Peak Trail
Directions: Head west on Highway 160 till you reach top of Wolf Creek Pass. The large parking lot will be on the right next to Continental Divide Display sign. Facilities: None Length: 2.9 miles one way Elevation: Begin Altitude- 10,863′ End Altitude- 11,870′ Map Trail Map

Pass Creek Lake
Directions- From the town of South Fork, Travel west on US Hwy 160 for 14 miles. The lake sits on you left or east side of the Hwy. Facilities- None Open unless snowed in. Typically open May 1st to Nov 15th Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish! Map

Lake Fork Creek Trail
Directions- From the town of South Fork, Travel west on US Hwy 160 for 10 miles. Park here in the developed Rest Area. The trail follows Lake Fork Creek to the northwest. Map

Platoro Reservoir
This is a high elevation lake at 10,000′ Fishing is for brown, rainbow and brook trout. The reservoir is open to large and small motorized and non-motorized boats. There is a boat ramp at the northeast end of the reservoir, near the dam. Map Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish!

Alder Bench Trail
Directions- From the Town of South Fork travel northwest on State Hwy 149 one mile until you cross the Rio Grande River. Turn right on County Road 15. Travel east on 15 a little over a mile until you see a sign for Forest Road 610. Turn left and go north on 610 2 miles to the Alder Guard Station. Park behind the Guard Station at the trailhead. NO ATV’s or JEEPS Single track trail, very challenging for motorcycle and mountain biking. Map

Beaver Mountain Trail
This trailhead is accessed on the east end by Forest Road 350.1A and on the west by the Beaver Creek road at the South Fork Guard Station. Length- 2.4 miles Open to ATV’s and motorcycles 50 inches in width or less. No Jeeps or wider ATV’s allowed. Map

Beaver Creek Reservoir
Directions- From the city of South Fork, travel 1 mile west on US Hwy 160. Turn left and go south on Forest Road 20 (Beaver Creek Road). Travel Forest Road 20 for 6 miles to the upper end of Beaver Creek Reservoir. The ramp and parking are at the right (west side) of the road. Facilities- Restroom, parking lot, trailer parking, boat ramp Motors are allowed on Beaver Creek Reservoir but boaters must not create large wakes as the reservoir is relatively small. Not a good lake for larger boats. For winter users- Parking lot plowed for ice fisherman and snowmobilers. Remember, you must have a valid Colorado fishing license to fish! Map
